Selecting a Need for Change

In higher education leadership literature, scholars have referenced the need for administrators to possess key attributes such as integrity, honesty, passion, determination, and team building (Scott, Coates, & Anderson, 2008). Even in modern times, the focus on soft skills means that academic leaders need to possess the necessary competency to resolve emerging challenges that permeate today’s learning environment. A good example to assess the impact of leaders in learning institutions is the Harvard Business School (HBS). I have chosen the HBS case study because it contains all the elements that learners need to understand the impact of leaders on the wellbeing of learning institutions. Since its inception, HBS has undergone a considerable transformation in terms of administrative structures and quality of education. From a personal perspective, the HBS case is relevant to me because, first, I am a product of higher education. I am curiou[……]

Question 1

The Colombian Ministry of Commerce views the trade treaty as a major way to improve access to the markets. The US is a world leading market and getting preferential access for Colombia would be a strategic step towards fighting competition from other economies. The FTT accords access to Colombia in different sectors of the economy. First, the treaty boosts agriculture, as Colombia would easily get local products such as meat, margarine, vegetable and fruits to the US market. Colombia does well in the production of these agricultural products and would manage to meet the market standards. The tripling of the sugar quota and the achievement of the 4 million tobacco quota is a demonstration of how the treaty works to improve exports. The treaty further improves access for sugar and oil-based products. Improved access for milk and milk products help to develop employment in the rural sector of the country. The treaty enables farmers and producers in remote parts to access[……]

Summary of Jean Piaget’s Concepts of Cognitive Development

Conservation

Conservation is the understanding of a child that despite the change in appearance of something, it remains the same. Conservation occurs to children at the age of 7-11 years (Dixon & Bangert, 2005). Most children at the age of six to seven years would identify that the quantity of something maintains despite the change in other elements. For example if five clothes were put closely to each other on a cloth lining then spread out, the child would still identify the number of clothes as being five despite the spread. This is referred to as conservation of number. If one of the clothes is taken and cut into three pieces, the child comprehends that the quantity of the cloth does not change and that if knit together, one would attain the former shape. This feature is called reversibility and the child has developed conservation of substance. As the child reaches eight to nine years, they develop conservat[……]

Business Ethics

The consumer should always be the first priority in all the business decisions. This is an ethical question whose answer lies in the understanding of moral principles. The industry is made up of a smaller number of people compared to the end users of products. For an action to be morally right, it has to result in maximum good (Frederiksen, 2012). In this case, businesses should work in light of the customer first before considering their needs. Owners of companies should identify what is best for consumption before developing ways to make money out of it. Where business needs come into conflict with the need on the market, the industry must sacrifice to satisfy the customer. This can involve use of money and resources to find solutions to problems emanating from products. If this does not happen, thousands of individuals could suffer or incur pain while a few enjoy. The industry could then be engaging in unethical practices. The health aspect of goods consumed can have more seriou[……]
